ICSE Affiliation: NAVADISHA Gets Chennai, Wednesday, September 12, 2007

Navadisha Montessori School received the official letter from the Executive Committee of ICSE. It confirmed the affiliation of the School to ICSE. The news of the affiliation was intimated to parents and students of the School. “It is one of the joyous moments in my life,” a student leader commented.

Class IX will start functioning from the next academic year, as per School sources. The School Management and students are happy to proceed their further pursuit along with the growth of the School.
Committees:
On June 4, 2007 School reopened for the staff of Navadisha.

Ms.Rukmini Ramachandran met the staff and set up various committees.

The staff members discussed and drew up plans to carry out the various assignments of the School.

These committees meet often and work together.

There are twenty-seven committees and all the staff members form part of these committees.

Events and Activities
On July 9, 2007 the first monthly test for classes V to VIII started.

The students of class V to VIII participated in the Navadisha Montessori School Quiz 2007. There were four teams which took part. The programme included visual, audio and science demonstrations culminating in the rapid fire question round. Team ‘Topaz’ scored the highest point followed by ‘Sapphire’ with ‘Opal’ and ‘Ruby’ teams close behind them.

On August 11, 2007 School Parents Outreach was held from 8:00AM to 12:00PM. Parents and teachers discussed the performance of their children and had their enquiries clarified.

On August 15, 2007 the School celebrated the Independence Day. The children came dressed in their house T-shirts.

Ms.Rukmini Ramachandran, Director hoisted the national flag and addressed the gathering. This was followed by patriotic songs and national anthem. Varsha of class V spoke on freedom struggle in Tamil. Flags and sweets were distributed to everyone.

On August 30, 2007 to commemorate Dr.Maria Montessori’s birthday, teachers read out excerpts from her books to children. As part of the Staff Development Day the Montessori teachers showed how mathematical concepts are followed in the Montessori way.

On September 22, 2007 we had the academic report meeting with parents of classes I to VIII.
Navadisha Concert
On August 27, 2007 the School’s concert was held at Kalakshetra Auditorium Hall, Thiruvanmiyur. Bharathi’s Tamil songs were chosen as the theme. The programme highlighted the vision of Bharathi and how his message reached the minds and hearts of the youth of the present day. Children started assembling at the venue from 4:30PM onwards. The programme started at 6:30PM sharp. To commemorate Onam the traditional Pookalam was arranged in front of the portrait of Smt.Rukmini Devi. Ms.Girija welcomed the guests. Ms.Leela Samson, Director of Kalkshetra Foundation addressed the gathering.

On the occasion of their birthday, Sashreeka of class IV, Siddharth Girimon of class V and Pavithra of class III donated books to the School Library.

On September 7, 2007 the School observed two minutes silence due to the sad demise of our office staff Ms.Geetha.
Field trips
In Navadisha, we take the children on various field trips frequently to supplement their academic curriculum as well as to provide concrete and practical experiences.

As part of our field trip programme, firstly the children of class III went to ‘Bharathiyar Illam’ on July 13, 2007. The students of classes VII and VIII were taken on a study trip to ‘Meteorological Department’ on July 16, 2007. They also got an opportunity to meet Mr.Ramanan, the director of Meterological Department and had an interactive session with him.

All the children of our Montessori Environments named Parijatha, Varija and Yuthika visited the Horticultural Soceity in the month of July 2007 with their adults and akkas. The children of classes IV and V were taken on a field trip to Aavin Milk factory, Sholinganallur, Chennai and the students of class VI visited the coin exhibition at R.A.Puram sponsored by the Indian Bank. Finally the children of class II went to Spencers Daily on August 8, 2007 as part of their ‘Food Project’. They made fruit salad and served to their friends and staff members. They were also taken on a study trip to Vandalur Zoo on August 10, 2007. The duration of their visit was for the whole day.

School  Elections

Our School students are divided into two Houses called Red and Blue Houses; inorder to participate in sports and co-curricular activities.

In our School Election Aditya of class VIII was selected as School Pupil Leader, Ashwin of class VIII as Assistant School Pupil Leader, Kavya of class VII as Red House captain, Rohit of class VII as Blue House captain, Harshit and Lobhan of class VI as Red and Blue House vice-captains.

Events in the Montessori Environment
School reopened for all the Montessori children on June 6, 2007. They came back to explore and enjoy environments after a long break. The new children joined the three classes and Kalika in July, 2007. After a brief period of crying and sobbing, they all settled down well in their respective environments.

Ms.Raji Balaram of Yuthika and Ms.Sankari Subbiah of Starlight Abacus jointly addressed the gathering on the topic “Developing the interests of Children at home” on Thursday, July 26, 2007.

The topic was well received and there was a lot of enthusiastic debate on the subject.

On August 16, 2007, Smt.Choodamani Srinivasan conducted a pot painting workshop at Kalika for all the older children. Smt.Choodamani Srinivasan came to School at 12:30PM and showed the children how to paint the pots and draw simple designs on them. Children were provided with pots and painting materials by the School. They finished painting the pots over the next couple of days and took them merrily and with a lot of pride. During the last week of August 2007 all the children received their School T-shirts – one blue and another red. They are eagerly waiting to wear one of them during their next field trip.

They also periodically visited the construction site within the campus and wondered at how fast the building grew. They were accompanied by their respective adults.
Guest speakers
Mr.Lenin from Birla Planetarium spoke on variety of science topics in Physics, Chemistry and Biology to our children of classes VI to VIII. Smt.Choodamani Srinivasan interacted with the Montessori children on pot painting.
